本书以类型电影为章节进行介绍和分析，共分为十个单元，基本涵盖了主要的电影类型，在每个章节中对各电影类型的定义，亚类型，特点，发展历史进行了介绍，并辅以各时期有代表性的电影作品简介，同时呈现了各类型的相关文化背景知识，在练习部分力求以多种练习形式对学习者的听、说、读、写、译进行全方位的训练和提高。作为多年从事基础英语教学工作的教师，希望能通过这次美国类型电影与文化的教材编写工作促进多层次复合型人才的培养，丰富和充实英语选修课类教材的建设。

陆洁：硕士，蒙古族，北京科技大学外国语学院副教授，本科生通识课程“基础外语”一级至三级主讲教师，本科生公共选修课程“趣味英语听说”“美国类型电影与文化”主讲教师；在各类期刊发表论文十余篇，参与多个科研项目，编写教材及专著多部。
李晓东：硕士，汉族，北京科技大学外国语学院副教授，教授课程包括“基础外语”“英美经典影视赏析”“商务英语听说”等。在各类期刊发表论文十余篇，主持并参与多个科研项目，参与编写教材及学术专著多部。
